6 Evilest cults of all time

With evil cult Dark onto Light likely to have played a part in our screenwriter Robert Hurley’s disappearance I thought we should look at other cults in the modern world so we can remember just how dangerous these groups can be.
It’s important not to forget that cults are very real and have often made headlines for human sacrifice, mass suicide and their dangerous beliefs.
This reality is something I sometimes forget. Being a horror film fan my thoughts on this subject often drift towards fictional characters like evil cult leader Rev Kane- the scary spirit in Poltergeist or make believe human sacrifices like that in the Wicker Man but the truth is these true life stories are much more frightening than the fiction we see in movies.

1.The Manson Family

Perhaps one of the most well known cults, the Manson Family, gained notoriety in the 60s after murdering Roman Polanski’s pregnant wife actress Sharon Tate. The Family was led by the infamous and utterly deranged Charles Manson who believed the Beetles inserted coded messages into their songs directly to him and a race war named Helter Skelter would bring fourth the end of the world.
Manson was a hardened racist and believed that black people would win this imaginary war.
His solution was to get the brainwashed Manson Family to operate a brutal killing, hoping these murders would be blamed on blacks.
The Manson family broke into Tate’s home in California and stabbed her 16 times, killing her and her unborn baby as well as her house guests. The word ‘PIG’ was then painted on the walls in Tate’s own blood.
Manson and his followers were shortly arrested but appeared to show no remorse for the killings.

Freaky fact:

Manson is still influencing people today and has many supporters. He receives thousands of letters each year.

2. The Ripper Crew

The Ripper Crew was a satanic cult made up of four men and led by Robin Gecht.
Believed to be responsible for the disappearance of over 18 women in Chicago in the early 80s, the group targeted women and tortured, killed and eventually ate them.
Gecht and his gang would amputate the left breast of their victims and take ‘ communion’ by each taking a bite of the dismembered flesh whilst reading passages of The Satanic Bible
The other members claimed Gecht had a supernatural power over them which forced them to take part in these disturbing rituals.

Freaky fact:

Robin Gecht had worked for infamous serial killer John Wayne Gacy as a construction subcontractor during the 70s.

3.Russian teen satanic cult

In Russia, June 2008, a devil worshiping cult consisting of six teenagers killed and ate 4 other teenagers in the name of Satan.
The teen satanic cult lured the victims into the forest and stabbed them 666 in homage to the beast and then lit a bonfire and cooked and eight the victims body parts, marking the remains with satanic symbols.
Upon being arrested one of the teenagers claimed “Satan will help me to avoid responsibility, I made lots of sacrifices to him”

Freaky Fact:

The gang claimed to have previously dug up a grave and eaten the heart of the girl buried there.

4.Church of Euthanasia

Don’t be mislead by this Boston based cult parading as a church as these people are far from Godly. The Church of Euthanasia beliefs stem from their Reverend
(cult leader) Chris Korda claiming alien intelligence told him that the planet’s ecosystem is failing.
They believe that voluntary population reduction will stop the world becoming over populated and help to restore the balance between humans and other species left on earth.
The Church of Euthansia only has one commandment, and it is “Thou Shalt Not Procreate.” And four “pillars” or principles, which are Suicide, Abortion, Cannibalism and Sodomy.
The Church encourage suicide and offer methods for the best way to do this. Despite the church’s radical views and dangerous influence you can still visit the church’s site Here ( WARNING)But do so at your own risk.

Freaky fact:

The church received legal threats after a 52 year old woman killed herself following their instructions on how to kill yourself by asphyxiation using helium.

5. Superior Universal Alignment

Superior Universal Alignment was a UFO cult in Mexico lead by Valentina de Andrade in the 80s. Valentina claimed to receive messages and secret knowledge from extraterrestrial beings.
One of the cults main beliefs was that children born after 1981 were evil and should be annihilated.
To become a member one had to abandon their children if they wanted to avoid the destruction of the earth and get the chance to escape in a spacecraft.
Eventually children started to go missing. Children were soon turning up dead and appeared to have been victims of a satanic ritual killings.
The bodies were mutilated and missing vital organs after being tortured and stabbed to death at the hands of this evil cult.

Freaky fact:

Valentina de Andrade herself escaped a prison sentence due to an alibi and was still preaching to followers as late as 2009.

6. The Peoples Temple

The People’s Temple was a doomsday cult claiming to be religious community led by Jim Jones who envisioned a utopia, where people of different races, education and skills could work together for the common good.
Based on this idea Jones founded an agricultural settlement in 1974 he named Jonestown but was soon accused of holding members against their will and violating their human rights.
In November 1978 Jones ordered his congregation to drink cyanide laces grape flavoured Kool Aid, telling his followers “you can go down in history, saying you chose your own way to go, and it is your commitment to refuse capitalism and in support of socialism.”

Den zahlreichen Kindern wurde von den eigenen Eltern ein Giftcocktail eingeflösst, bevor diese sich mit Zyankali-Limonade selbst umbrachten.

Nearly 1000 people committed mass suicide under the influence of Jones including babies and small children who were the first to have the concoction administered to them.

You can listen to the full mass suicide tape recording online. It’s eerie but also incredibly sad.

If Hurley truly was mixed up with the cult Dark Onto Light I fear for his fate.
